Setting up the SDK in VS 2005
Dave mentioned this in his Monday daily news post, but I thought it was worth repeating and also correcting Dave's statement a bit.
In the daily news it says Dave Stokes released a document detailing the installation of Community Server 2.1. It's actually more than that. He describes how to set up CS 2.1 SDK together with VS 2005 to create your own developer environment and be ready to start developing different add-ons for CS.
Dave's Stokes also steps us through developing a CS Add-on for monitoring your CS DB sizes, and how to integrate that within the CS Site Administration.
In my opinion, a document well worth downloading and reading. Setting up the CS SDK and get it to work with VS 2005, and be able to debug your add-ons, is a procedure that could make you loose some hair in worst case. There are documentations on it since before, but in different places. In this doc it's gathered in one place, and with a lot of screenshots. And as mentioned, a walk-through on how to integrate your own stuff into the Site Admin.
I have hinted a bit in my last posts that I want/need to start do a little bit more CS developing. So this together with Keyvan's Dev Guide it's a good source of inspiration for me. I have a few ideas on what to do, and I will try to post them here in a near future.
Also, you might think, what happened to my screencasts? I have not forgotten them, and they will reappear on this blog. Just don't currently know when. But my goal is to have at least one screencast during this month. Any suggestions you might have on topics for my screencasts is also welcomed!
