External Tag Links CSModule

A member of my Swedish CS community has been using Wordpress for his blog for a while. Now he's planning to move to Community Server. One of the things he used with Wordpress was a control that let him add kind of external tag links to the bottom of his posts. He wondered if I knew of any such control for CS.

I'd seen somewhere that Dave Burke had done something similar for Technocrati tags, but couldn't find any information on it. And searching the cs.org didn't bring me anything else either. So, a great opportunity to develop a new CSModule I thought. Geeked

So how does it work? You just add an ExternalTagLinks Text Part to your blog post, and to that a comma separated list of tags that you want to link to on the external site (i.e. Technocrati but configurable via communityserver.config).

After posting it, the post would look like:

Of course the prefix text 'Other blogs about' is also configurable through the communityserver.config. Smile

The control is downloadable from my downloads area.

I hate to say it, but this CSModule is so March 2006... Actually, it's interesting how you changed a simple Technorati Tags module to be configureable and serve as more than a one-function tags indexing service. Nice! Sorry you couldn't find my original Technorati Tags CSModule. I wrote it for CS 2.0 anyway. http://dbvt.com/x/cs/DaveBurke.CS.Modules.zip. I wasn't using File Galleries in CS 2.0 since the source wasn't available.

Hey Dave!

I don't know what you mean by "so March 2006". Hope it's not "I am so after my time". :-)

I wrote it exactly as the control in wordpress works, but wanted to have the flexibility to be able to use it for any "tags site".

That line would have been more effective had I written my Technorati Tags CSModule in 2005.  "That module is SO 2005." :-)

Right, the flexibility of yours is great.  That's the point I tried to make in my commenet and in today's Daily News report.

Thanks Dave,

I took a look at the code of your module, and I see I basically did the same thing as you did. :-)
